Suggestion for the monument
I suggest that we put the monument which is a statue of Tan Kah Kee near the hwachong's clock tower, probably in front of it as that would provide a 'bird's eye view' for the founder to see whats happening in hwa chong. Hwa Chong ians or visitors could also tell immediately that he is a important man for our school which fits the purpose of celebrating his success.
This is how i suggest the monument should look like.

There would be three statues of Tan Kah Kee, each of them represents his different generation of life. I chose his time as a successful buisnessman as I want people to know that although he is rich, he still donates generously.
I chose him as a youth as it shows us how tan kah kee used to have education like us but not as sophiscated like now. I decided to clad him in our uniform as this would give HwaChongians a sense of how close tan kah kee is with us. This also shows that he longed for education like now in his days.
I also chose the statue when he is old as this shows how generous he donated his money, resulting in his poor later years where he had not as much money that he used to have as all of them were donated for education purpose.
I also designed the hci logo with trees, rubber trees that were planted by his companyy which was so recognised then. This logo shows the bond between our school and his rubber company.
The above are my suggestions.

Social Impact
From 1913 onwards, Mr Tan Kah Kee started to raise money for education purposes in his hometown. This somehow kickstarted his career as a philanthrophist.
1906, he actively participated in Hokkien Clan Association to build a school named Tao Nan, and became the school's third president. It was a primary school then.
He became aware of how the people in Singapore had to go abroad to China to further their studies for High School. As such, he began initiating both Malaya and Singapore to donate money for a school.
He kick-started the donation by donating $30,000. Lots of people followed his example and went on to donate money. They received a total of $500,000 and this was enough to build a school, which was later named as 'Chinese High School', now known as Hwa Chong Institution. In 21st March 1919, it opened officially. This was the first chinese school in Asia-Pacific. He went on to donate money for schools such as Chong Fu and Nanyang High School.
His buisness went to a deep turmoil after a financial crisis. Although his buisness was crashing, he did not stop donating money for the schools. Instead, he sold all his manchines in his factory for the schools when CHS went into a crisis where there was a lack of students. This resulted in end of his buisness which was once so internationally recognisable.
His contributions helped Singaporeans to thrive, especially the chinese. Most of the chinese at that time worked as coolies and led a hard life. Upon founding schools, he enriched the education of the chinese and thus allowed them to be more eduacated. In this way, they would have more jobs available for them since they have higher qualifications.
Having a school also taught them of moral values and thus they were educated on the correct way of life. This is important as there was violence along the streets and need to be stopped.
I think this is a social impact as it improves the education of chinese who came to Singapore and help them socially to find jobs

Biography
Tan Kah Kee was a prominent businessman, community leader, and philanthropist in colonial Singapore, and he was greatly respected by many for his generous contribution to the community.
His father was a buisnessman when he was young and had always wanted him to come to Singapore to help him with the buisness. When he was 16 years old, his mother finally gave in and let his father take him away to Singapore. He began working for his father in the rice store. However, his father's buisness collapsed 13 years later. Tan Kah Kee started his own buisness from that small amount of money and build an empire from rubber plantations, making the name the 'rubber king'.
During his childhood, the education system was very poor. teachers only ask them to recite a poem without explaning. Citing one horrible childhood experience, one of his childhood friends did not go to school with the believe that he would have nothing out of the lesson. He went to fight with gangsters and unfortuantely, died.
Tan Kah Kee was filled with emotions that day and he made up his mind to build schools which has a good eduacation system for people to study.
Later, he became a successful buisnessman and built an empire from rubber plantations. He obviously had a mind made for buisness and he was known as one of the four 'rubber kings'. He invested in some seeds that eventually resulted in his great buisness profit he had earned. However, he did not led a comfortable life. With his earlier resolution to improve the current education system of the country, he raised money as a 'initiative' for others to donate and thus established the Chinese High School.
It was the first Chinese school of the country and helped a lot in the education system which i would touch on later.
He also donated lots of money for schools such as Nanyang Girls High School. Although he was rich, he did not led a comfortable life as he donated all his savings towards education. He slept in one of the rooms of a universtiy that he had founded.
